The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has elected Mr Francis Owusu-Boamah as its parliamentary candidate for Adansi Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti region. The election which was supervised by a representative from the Electoral Commission saw Mr Owusu-Boamah elected by popular acclamation to represent the CPP in the constituency. Introducing the parliamentary aspirant to the enthusiastic crowd, the flag bearer of the CPP, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, urged them to vote massively for the energetic Mr Owusu-Boamah to enable him bring development to the constituency. He said, as a humble, respectful and an eloquent person the aspiring parliamentarian would not disappoint them if he gets the nod to become their Member of Parliament (MP). Dr Nduom, who also doubles as the MP for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem, bemoaned that even though gold is mined in Adansi Asokwa, yet majority of its indigenes are impoverished. It was for this reason that he promised to ensure that the town has its fair share of the national cake if his party wins the forthcoming election. He reiterated that his administration would ensure that the oil find in the country remains in the earth if it would not be explored to benefit Ghanaians. The flag bearer of the CPP told the party faithful and sympathizers who had thronged to the Adansi Asokwa Lorry Park that an Nduom-led administration would resuscitate all the collapsed factories which were built by Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, and also build new ones. The objective, he said, is to offer jobs to the youth most of whom are unemployed. Highlighting on education, the CPP presidential hopeful hinted that it will be free, compulsory and continuous for every Ghanaian of school going age from kindergarten to Senior High School that wide applause from the crowd. Dr Nduom advised his party members to eschew politics of violence, rancour and acrimony, stressing that the CPP is a peaceful party. He said, as the party which gained political freedom for Ghana, it would not do anything untoward to violate the peace currently enjoyed by the country. He underscored that a vote for the CPP on December 7 would be for peace and happiness. On his part, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the CPP, Mr S.K. Danso, took a swipe at both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the National Patriotic Party (NPP) for doing virtually doing nothing to get the citizenry of this country from the perils of poverty. Earlier, Dr Nduom was met by an enthusiastic crowd most of them who in party shirts demonstrated their support for the party by singing and chanting the Yeresasamu and Edwumawura slogans. Dr Nduom also used the event to inaugurate the polling station executives for the party in the Adansi Asokwa constituency. He tasked them to work hard to ensure victory for the party after the December polls. |
