An Accra based private legal practitioner, Bright Akwetey, is the first to officially declare his intention to contest the flagbearership of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) following the opening of nominations by the party on Wednesday.

This comes less than a week, after the party’s 2008 flagbearer Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, announced his resignation from the party to form his own political party.

Mr. Akwetey told Citi News in an interview that what the CPP requires is a viable and competitive leader.

“I’m going for the slot because with the position I am vying for, I will do better than others have done in the previous years,” he said. “I have sat by seeing others do it and I can think I can reach greater heights. I am willing to make sacrifices to serve the country better. ”

The CPP leading member, who will be picking his forms on Monday, 9th January, told Citi News that his candidacy will bring renewed hope in the leadership of the Nkrumahist party.
